Help us give students a voice!

Thank you so much for supporting our mission to bring student-run newspapers to all NYC public schools.

All monies raised go directly to the cause, as all members of the team are volunteers.

Whatever you can give is truly appreciated!

In order to make our mission successful, we have strategized our next steps. All donations and sponsorships to Students Disrupting will go to the following programs:

  • Step 1, Community Roundtables:

    • Gather teachers advising student newspapers already in place at their school and their school leadership to share best practices, challenges, and advice.

    • Gather students currently or have been on school newspapers and their parents to share what made it successful, what they learned from it, and what they would improve.

    • Gather teachers interested in starting a student newspaper at their school and their school leadership to share concerns and perceived challenges getting in the way of starting.

    • Gather students and parents interested in being involved in a school newspaper, and their thoughts on what will make it successful and the challenges they foresee.

  • Step 2, Pilot Program:

    • Search for and find teachers, students, parents, and school leadership in all 5 boroughs interested in starting a student newspaper.

    • Introduce the participants to the benefits of student newspapers through professional development and one-on-one sessions.

    • Lead, advise, and support participants in creating a student newspaper in their school by providing the right steps, cross-curricular opportunities, and resources necessary to publish their first issue.

    • After the first issue publication, review areas of strength and improvement in order to continue publishing throughout the rest of the school year.

    • Continue support for teachers, students, parents, and school leadership to ensure a successful student newspaper in their school.

  • Step 3, Implementation:

    • Use the research gathered from the community roundtables and pilot program, we will devise a strategy that works best for each borough, district, and school to implement a student newspaper.

    • Work with all necessary parties to ensure a transition of student newspapers are implemented in all NYC public schools as a class that enhances the school community and student skills.

    • Lead, advise, and support schools in sustaining a student newspaper in their school by providing the right steps, cross-curricular opportunities, and resources necessary to publish on a regular basis.
